After that was completed, students began working on Vocabulary words for The Lady, or the Tiger. As a class, we read "Before you Read" on page 10. Meet Frank R. Stockton. Then, we read "Connect to the Story", "Build Background", "Conflict", and "Summarize" on page 11. Our skill for this short story is SUMMARIZING Teacher: Read first paragraph with students while helping students comprehend the meaning of the words. 9th LiteratureOpening: Collection of signed syllabuses. Students were to follow a writing prompt that required them to create a story (at least five sentences) that did not use plot, gender, or names. Discussion followed.
Work Session: Students were to read a short story called "Thank you, Ma'am" by Langston Hughes and then write in their journals what made this story more effective then the story they wrote previously. Later, students followed a writing prompt that required them to look at a picture and write another short story using just the picture.
